From “Beta, thora diet per control karo, pait nikal raha hai” to “Dear, how do you expect to fit into those slim fit denims I bought for you with a figure like that?”, all those comments from those around you have finally convinced you into joining the nearby gym that Aunty Fakhra’s bahu goes to or your friend Abdullah from next door hits just to waste time. The question is, how to prepare for it? Because yes, that part too, is necessary. Besides making up your mind about what diet changes you might be required to make and what else needs to be modified about your routine, comes the time when you decide to spend some money on your new gym life and buy a fancy schmancy gym bag which of course, is a one-time kharcha. But what should your gym back contain?
Here are five things you gotta have.
Dealing With Post-Workout Acne Problems
Wraps
Someone who is super enthusiastic about the gym and is new to the entire fitness game is generally seen to be more at risk with injuring their knee joints and their wrists because they don’t know yet how much their bodies can take and which angles serve them best. Hence, make a habit of wearing knee/wrist wraps and sleeves to reduce the occurrence of those injuries. You can get them from pharmacies.
Sanitizer
OCD alert! But hygiene comes first anyway. And besides, if you aren’t looking forward to acne and other skin ailments when you have only just begun your fitness journey, you can never be too careful. Carry a hand sanitizer, it’s a tiny bottle that won’t take too much of space in your bag. Squirt some on your hands as soon as you are done grabbing all that gym equipment.
Water Bottle
You can never skip this one, don’t even think about it! You gotta keep that water bottle handy at all times, and not just keep it but use it well too. Have short term goals and make small marks on your bottle indicating just how much you need to finish before that series of crunches and how much more until its home time.
Snack
This is completely optional and sometimes depends on for how long you are going to the gym. You can buy a granola bar (high in protein, available on stores like Green Valley, Al Fatah, and Imtiaz) or a packet of low-fat cookies. Something that’s handy and doesn’t get your hands messy as well as it gets rid of that bewaqt ki bhook for you during your lifting sessions.
Towel
Since most of our Pakistani gyms don’t come up with a shower-in facility for members, its essential that you keep a small towel at hand so that you don’t go home dripping in sweat, to the extent that your Amma thinks you are doing some tashaddud to yourself or the whole house just blocks their noses. It’s also for your own convenience. You can also toss a deodorant in your bag that you can use a bit after you are done drying yourself off.
