Even though the gym can do wonders for many of us when helping us meet our body goals, you might just be making a few mistakes with technique or tactics that you are using and that might result in you not being able to reap the benefits of your hard work. It can be truly frustrating, especially when you see everyone else getting good results from their workout, all except you. But before you decide to call it quits and give up, ask yourself if you are guilty of any of the following.
The Skinny On Fat
Not warming up
One of the biggest mistakes that you can certainly be making at the gym is skipping your warm up every day because ‘ain’t nobody got time for that’. The reason why warming up is so essential is because it elevates your heart rate gradually, giving it a kick start, preparing it for the heavy intensity workout that you will begin with. Your body doesn’t just get attached to big weights all of a sudden when you include a warm up. It gradually gains the pace, which is healthy.
Having no goal
Do you ever just one day decide to drag yourself to the gym having absolutely no clue what you shall be doing that day? Because you just weren’t in the mood for it but you went anyway, or you crammed your gym hour into your busy schedule, hence, having no time beforehand to make your mind about what exercise you are going to do and how many reps. That way, you will only be wasting your time as well as energy. Achieving your body goals at the gym is all about having a rough draft in your head about what area needs to be focused each day.
Building abs (only)
Desi communities are more obsessed with building abs than working on other parts of the body, for sure. Guys in Pakistan are more focused on having that Salman Khan body, doesn’t matter if your thighs are going out of shape or your arms need toning, focusing on building six packs is our favorite. Not many think about the muscular balance your body would be lacking if you focus on one area only. The goal isn’t just to look macho, but also to be healthy and fit.
Being too focused on your phone
We understand that you might need some upbeat music in order to boost your performance at the gym, but how about you just keep it for this use only and keep your text messaging, social media and emails aside for a while? It’s a huge distraction and your body might be missing out a lot on that dedication and attention it needs when you are working out. Be mindful about your workout and put your head in the game.
Not keeping a track of time
If you aren’t timing your reps during exercise or you aren’t timing your rest period, you really need to think twice about the amount of effort you are putting into your gym routine. Timing is the key, a one-hour workout is the best you can give to your body and that time period needs to be divided wisely. You can use a stopwatch in your smartphone to time your activities and you will eventually find yourself more focused and hence improved with the results.
