Why is it that every time we hear the term D.I.E.T, starvation comes to mind? When we refuse a bag of chips that a friend offers or we eat a little at aunty jee’s place we get to hear the typical statement: Dieting tou nahi krahi kahin? and if you’re a dude then you might hear beta shaadi k baad bhuke hi raho ge tou khalo abhi; like what? Obviously, you’ve been starving your hubby. But the truth is that most of the diets that exist do focus on starving you to some extent and these are the most popular diets that are being followed regardless of the controversies associated with them. They are known as ‘miracle’ diets because yes they do yield quite remarkable results but living in this part of the world, are they even manageable? That is for you to decide on.
Miracle Diets That Do What They Promise
The Atkins Diet
The biggest name in the world of dieting; the Atkins diet also often thought of as the biggest fad diet in history. The diet cuts out all carbs in your diet and you are assigned specific food groups for every day like one day could be just fish, the next could be fruits, veggies, meat and so on. Even though this diet is effective and you can find many success stories but by the time you’re done with it your body would’ve internally died because our desi bodies aren’t designed for these restricted diet plans, we are the roti paye khaane wali awaam, we can’t just drop everything and expect to be healthy with model bodies.
Cabbage Soup Diet
Firstly, cabbage just tastes nasty when its boiled (unless it’s not in Chinese rice) and having to just keep drinking something till you drop dead in an attempt to get thinner is plain lunacy. Yes, cabbage is healthy, but drinking a tasteless soup for seven days is like surviving on an IV drip, just without the drip. Out of these 7 days, you are allowed one day where you can eat up to 8 bananas only; jee thanks. What would happen to our kabab and naan consuming bodies when all we are having for 7 days is soup and it doesn’t even have corn!
Volumetrics
Okay! So, for this diet, you need a short course on physics and measurement because it comprises of eating foods that look filling like a bunch of fat looking grapes and foods high in water content, that’s just the first phase. After that, you gradually move towards eating “high energy” food that basically is crap like pizzas, cakes, chips, candies, fries etc. This is stuff that our desi body cannot afford because after this you’re going to have a saggy Kim K butt or a tond as if you are pregnant.
The Raw Food Diet
So here you’re basically eating phal sabzi right off the cart and occasional nuts and herbs too. You don’t cook or microwave, you simply take the sabzi and start eating like you’re some bakra. This food must be completely natural so no pesticides can be sprayed on your veggies so that implies that in Pakistan you cannot go to the sabzi mandi to buy fruit and veggies because they are all sprayed and that you should have enough money to make a kitchen garden. Oh well!
